Reason behind the recent Banda in Nepal Mandala

The words like Dharma, Karma, Yoga, Nirvana etc. have been already included in the English vocabulary by the writers of interest on South Asian civilization. In addition, the word ‘Banda’ in context of Nepal is also gradually getting recognition from media reporters of South Asia.

The Banda called in with political and non political reason by any group has become
a regular practice for Nepalese people to show instability or ignorance of current government in Nepal. This write up throws some light on recent banda called by the members of coalition of all party to support the group known as Newah Rastriya Mukti Morcha the forum for liberation of Newah people as noted by various media outlets including BBCnepali, Nepalnews.com and several other local newspapers. They have claimed the recent band has its own feature that was not similar to any banda called in the past. Even the new Prime Minister Madhav Nepal took advantage of skipping the daily routine and visited his birth place to receive the public reception in Rautahat, out of the valley. According to the news reporter Shreejana Shrestha of Nepalnews.com, it affected all including the people who survive in ‘nanglo pasal’, were also not allowed to run the business. Some of the drivers who were carrying the fake ‘press ID’ had to face the consequences and vandalized by the protesters. The security police vehicles were also not allowed to run in the street. They were force them to walk for their duties.

It was fully effected the life of people and the whole city was shut down for the entire day.  As said by street interviewee of the newplnews.com the band was not good nor it does well for people and there must be some other way to protest the issue. In contrast, the supporter of banda organizers Mr. Malla K Sunder prominent Newah leader, in his speech at the end of day said that they were obliged to call Banda because the earless and eyeless people are ruling the country it was the only way to draw their attention and correct the mistakes they have committed for the benefit of handful people. If the suppressive attitude continued by the ruling elite group they will be forced to shut down the Singha Darwar and capture to establish the parallel government in Nepal Mandala.

The banda was a huge success that general people have never witnessed before. To disrupt the banda there were some reports that some members of elite group were mobilized in Balkhu area where the current PM residence is located and attacked by Khukuri to supporter of banda. One might be wondering why banda was called? What is the reason behind this banda and what is the significance of the banda particularly the recent one on June 1st. Ten years ago on the day of June 1st the Supreme Court of Nepal made the decision on not to allow the local national languages in three municipal offices in Nepal Mandala and Rajbiraj municipality and district headquarter. Since that day the dissatisfied and disgrunled people were calling the day as BLACK DAY of Nepal. It has been supported by many Maithili speakers as well as by the marginalized group and the indigenous population. The observance of Banda was a spade to the spade of Supreme Court

decision and the Khas oriented government of Nepal. Besides, the 2009 banda also coincides with special feature to protest on new ordinance registered in the parliament to eliminate the existence of three districts of the Nepal Manadala and to establish the valley  centrally govern region under the new provision of Nagar Bikash Parishad a council of City Development. The council was over loaded with all kind of authoritative powers that can not be appealed in any court and it can capture any area in the name of city development. The reason behind the ordinance was to disable the voices of claim by the principle inhabitants of Nepal Mandada as federal state and put the indigenous population into minority as it has been growing in recent years by tactical influx of people from outside.  In one of the news circulated in news paper due to massive support and gathering during the banda the current PM has assured that the ordinances will be taken back to pacify the angry mob. The question still floats that what he said is simply a mouth piece or his back bone supporters who come from back door will agree on what he says. If not the people will see another bigger banda and the ordinance supporters have to hide in their birth place out side the Nepal Mandala.
