Dear all;

The recent political issue of revival of local bodies like VDCs and DDCs in the countries needs more care and attention. I feel so.

The political parties have agreed to make a common consensus and rule the country till the formation of constituent. But, the power practices sometime divert them. These parties must work for the betterment of the people not their cadres.

In this context, my concern is about the revival of local bodies. What if state declares the election of local bodies???

I have reasons for this.

1. Maoists have agreed for the peaceful struggle to strengthen democracy but in practice it is not so. The election of CA is full of rumors and saying. Parties blame Maoists for threatening the people who are against them. But the observers said that the election was peaceful. In this light, the parties who blame Maoists seem fake. The election of local bodies will verify that the Maoists are or the democracy or against the democracy. There behavior will prove it and it will also justify the power of other political parties and Maoist too. The question may raise do we have that patience and courage to verify all this. I say we are learning by doing. I do not see any harm doing this.

2. Election is the only democratic way of rule. The parties who are in the government and in the power and if they believe in democracy, they should not runaway from the election.

3. The politics among local people esp. the village politics is zero since 2056. This has created confusion among the people. The service delivery has been ineffective. People need more political awareness in the grass root. The election of local bodies carries political awareness to the grass root level.

Thank you for reading me. Please let me know your views and if you do agree with me, please convey this to your 10 friends.

Best Regards

Subject: SOCIOLOGY TALK

Gentleman,

This is to inform you that Mr. Dev Kaji Shakya would be an opportunist as I am virtually compelled to comment so.  Why fear at all in expressing one's open opinions liberally or frankly.  He is not isolated as is Mr. Yog Bir Shakya who has settled to the east forty-five kilometers still away from Darjeeling.  Yet the former refuses to contact me.  What a surprise !  Had there truly existed a stable unity amongst us the Newahs two and a half centuries back the Gorkhalis from the west could have never invaded Nepal Valley at all.  Any way Kirtipur fought the bravest in the Valley Battle.  Even a Newah lady took part in the fierce war as a shooter (bows and arrows during those days); her name is Kirti Laxmi indeed.  Kalu Pandey, the Chief Army General and considered the right hand man of  Prithvi Narayan Shah, was killed straight.  Pratap Shah, the younger brother of Prithvi Narayan Shah, had his eye smashed eventually.  All these defeats angered Prithvi Narayan Shah the more.  As a matter of fact Prithvi Narayan Shah had been captured in Kirtipur.  It was the foolish Newahs who spared him after fighting for three times ever.  Prithvi Narayan Shah was tied up in a pannier (khamoo) and carried along for any judicial penalty before the royal court.  A Naay (Newah butcher) had boldly lifted his sword to split Prithvi Narayan Shah into two.  A posh Newah suddenly appeared on the scene instructing him that the king must be killed by a king alone and the Naay had no right to execute the captive himself.  I never knew what the universal law was in view of any bilateral conflict.  Another source said the Naay was prevented by the Newah (the sword was controlled) with his combined force of two hands against dealing with Prithvi Narayan Shah personally.  In all that turmoil Prithvi Narayan Shah, the cunning fox, took a mean advantage.  He just made an escape.  Would the Newah monarch execute Prithvi Narayan Shah if the latter was really escorted till the royal palace or the Layekoo (the capital part of the minute kingdom) ?  I don't think so.  The Newahs have been found to be mild time often.  Let us eliminate any stupidity yet incurred in our lifestyle.  I was a student of history, so had to study all these stuffs.  You are not supposed to mind my lengthy contents.

Did you know that Rev. Fr. Ludwig Stiller, S.J. has expired ?  He was an American, a retired teacher of St. Xavier's Kathmandu.  Believe it or not he had entered the Second World War fighting the Japanese.  He had a M.A. on the academic chart when he first showed up in the Valley in the fifties.  Later was sent to St. Mary's College in Kurseong for a period of five consecutive years to finish the philosophical course of a Catholic Jesuit.  On returning to Nepal he decided to commit Ph.D. in the "History of Nepal"  Thus he prepared his thesis entitled THE RISE OF THE HOUSE OF GORKHA and submitted it at Tribhuvan University, the first varsity of Nepal nestled in Kirtipur.  He wrote other books also highlighting on Prithvi Narayan Shah's "Dibya Upadesh."  They are all stocked up in the University Library.  It is evident that he remains in sound favor of  Narayanhity.  He must have written the mentioned book just to impress the Royal Palace or to fetch his citizenship very officially.  Was he formally decorated with "Prabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu" ?  I can't allege, but he was a Nepalese citizen for sure before he perished in the hospital.  The Newahs would have gotten him for authoring THE RISE OF THE HOUSE OF GORKHA which just seems to blaspheme the indigenous citizens or the native residents by the way.  Now that he is no more, we are too late.  I'll tell you what ---  Rev. Fr. Ludwig Stiller, S.J. once promised me that he would too grasp Nepal Bhasa as the majority of the citizens are speaking it up the hill station and thinks why he should miss it after all.  Later he never bothered to learn speaking the Newah dialect nor writing the Newah language.  He is a top liar than a witty person !  The earlier Jesuits that settled in Nepal Valley, who were British of course, were driven away by Prithvi Narayan Shah in the seventeenth century.  They went resettling in Betiah of north-east India as you know very well.   The new Jesuits that again arrived in modern Nepal were Americans, headed by Rev. Fr. Marshall Moran, S.J. who parted away from St. Xavier's Patna.  St. Xavier's of Nepal was established in Godavari in 1951 (starting with Grade V), I guess affiliated to St. Xavier's Patna.  The first Senior Cambridge Batch took place in 1956 with five brilliant candidates.  Godavari in the infant stage of her academy had to proceed to Patna to sit for the Final Overseas Examination.  In other words St. Xavier's Godavari was only authorized to sent up the reliable examinees.  St. Xavier's Jawalakhel was established in 1955 with the introduction of junior classes ranging from Kinder Garten to Grade IV (five years in all).  St. Mary's High School was established the same year.  Since then St. Xavier's plus St. Mary's share Senior Cambridge together without having to venture to Patna as did the earlier batches of Godavari to commit their Cambridge.  Thank you.

Faithfully yours,

Amrit Ratna Tuladhar
